Why Do We Assemble?

Posted on July 11, 2009 at 2:09 pm by Andy Sochor

The New Testament gives three reasons why it is important for Christians to assemble:

  1. We assemble to worship God (John 4:24).
  2. We assemble to encourage our brethren (Hebrews 10:25).
  3. We assemble to gain encouragement from our brethren (Hebrews 10:25).

Once we reach a point where we need no encouragement because it has become impossible for us to fall, and all of our brethren are likewise in a perpetual state of godly perfection, and God is no longer worthy of worship, assembling with the saints will not be important.

Of course, the first two conditions will never exist while we are here on the earth. The third condition will never exist, nor has it ever existed. So let us not forsake the assembly (Hebrews 10:25).
